Chainbow Fundraises £5,000 by Conquering the UK’S Three Biggest Peaks - Jul 2010
Last weekend, the chairman of property management company, Chainbow, lead several of his staff members across the UK’s three tallest mountains in aid of fundraising £5,000 for children’s research charity, Sparks.
Roger Southam, his daughter and seven Chainbowites climbed Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lakes District and Mount Snowdon in Wales, respectively. The group of nine reached the summit of the Welsh Mountain at 8:34am on Sunday 11 July having begun their trek in Scotland the previous morning at 6:40am.
Mr Southam commented, “This was the second time I managed to conquer the Three Peaks and it was great to be able to do it with the Chainbow team. We had been fundraising, training and organising the trip since February and it is a fantastic achievement to have generated more than £5,000 for Sparks.
“The most difficult part of the challenge was climbing down Scafell Pike at midnight while the rain bucketed down, it was freezing and we had limited vision from our head touches. The second interesting challenge was accidently missing our train and trying to convince Virgin Trains’ ticket inspector it was not intentional, but they still charged us more than £390 for new tickets.”
Never tiring of a challenge, Chainbow is already planning their next fundraising initiative for Sparks, tentatively scheduled for early 2011.
