Housing Ombudsman Scheme
Recently Chainbow became the first Managing Agent to join the Housing Ombudsman Scheme. In the past legislation did not allow for managing agent to be included in the scheme but as this is now in the process of changing Chainbow looked to be involved immediately to offer further services to their residents.
The Housing Ombudsman Scheme (HOS) is the only statutory body with the specific function of dealing with complaints and disputes involving consumers and providers of housing services. HOS has a mandatory jurisdiction over all social landlords in England and a voluntary remit over the private rented sector, where many landlords and managing agents have joined.
HOS offers a range of dispute resolution options according to the circumstances of each case, including investigation, conciliation, mediation and arbitration. The Housing Ombudsman can make orders as well as recommendations when he finds maladministration. HOS also offers effective complaint handling training for its members, free of charge, as well as advice and information on conflict management.
